A day before she was set to perform at the inaugural New York City edition of All Things Go, Chappell Roan has dropped out of the music festival, citing the need to prioritize her health.

On Friday afternoon, the “Hot to Go!” singer posted a brief statement to her Instagram story. Roan first apologized “to people who have been waiting to see me in NYC & DC this weekend,” but said, “I am unable to perform.”

“Things have gotten overwhelming over the past few weeks and I am really feeling it,” she wrote.

In recent weeks, Roan has been candid about the trials and tribulations of fame, including speaking out about the “creepy fan behavior” that she’s started to experience. In a recent profile for The Guardian, the singer revealed that she was diagnosed with severe depression, which she attributed to her rapid ascent to global pop stardom and its impact on her ability to do the things she loves without being stalked or harassed.

In that same profile, Roan said that she doesn’t feel “pressured to endorse someone” in the U.S. presidential election because “there’s problems on both sides,” and encouraged people to use “critical thinking” and vote down ballot. People on the internet widely misinterpreted these comments as a tacit endorsement of Donald Trump, leading the singer to post a pair of videos to TikTok clarifying her stance earlier this week. Specifically, Roan said she was not equating the Democrats and Republicans, but rather critiquing both parties “because they’re both so fucked up.” She clarified that she’s “voting for fucking Kamala” but also said that she’s “not settling for what has been offered.”

In a series of TikTok videos, the Midwest Princess made her positions on Palestine and the 2024 presidential election clear.

Roan’s statement about All Things Go continued: “I feel pressures to prioritize a lot of things right now and I need a few days to prioritize my health. I want to be present when I perform and give the best shows possible.”

She concluded by thanking people for understanding, and promised to “be back soon xox.”

In a statement emailed to Them and posted on Instagram, the All Things Go team said that it was “heartbroken to announce that Chappell Roan will no longer be performing at this year’s festivals.”

“While we know how much you were looking forward to the performances, it’s important to remember that health and well-being always comes first,” the statement said. “All Things Go strongly supports artists prioritizing their well-being and we ask our community to rally around Chappell Roan with love and understanding. Let’s continue to show the world that music fans support not just the art, but the artists themselves.”
