While speaking to podcast host Tommy DiDario, Heartstopper author Alice Oseman that, if the show were to get picked up for a fourth season by Netflix, it would be the series’ final outing.
When asked about a fourth season while appearing on DiDario’s podcast I’ve Never Said This Before, Oseman, who uses she and they pronouns, said that she hasn’t received any “solid news” about season four yet, but that she would use any remaining episodes to wrap up the story. DiDario shared a clip of the interview on X on Thursday morning.

“I really really just want to tell the end of the story on TV and bring all of those characters, their stories, to a close,” Oseman said. “So fingers crossed.”
“So four would be the end?” DiDario asked.
“Yeah, for sure,” they said.
Heartstopper executive producer Patrick Walters, also present for the interview, said that Oseman’s schedule for both the graphic novel and the TV series has been “grueling.”
“The schedule for graphic novel and TV version of Heartstopper has been pretty punishing on you,” Walters said. “Alice literally does everything.” He continued, “So you need a break.”
The series’ third season debuted earlier this month and featured its main characters Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) navigating sex and university preparation.
“I think that it felt like quite a natural [progression] for the story, but also for us as actors to take that step and deal with these slightly more challenging and nuanced issues,” Connor told Them last month. “That was something that felt quite natural, positive, and exciting as actors.”
Locke added, “They’re teenagers. It’s very normal and natural for them to be thinking about sex and that state of their relationships. And so I think it’s only right that we portray that in a really positive and real way. It’s not an easy thing.”
Since its premiere, Heartstopper has been a massive hit for Netflix. In 2022, the show reached Netflix’s Top Ten list in 54 countries, according to Variety. It has also won numerous accolades at the Children’s and Family Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Young Teen Series, and an acting Emmy for lead Kit Connor.
As of yet, Heartstopper has not been renewed for a fourth season at Netflix.
