Welcome to your Virgo Season horoscope. Before we find out everybody’s fate, let’s take some time to get to know our foxy friends. To anyone who pays even the tiniest smidge of attention, Virgos are incredibly fascinating creatures. They rarely suffer from main character syndrome, but every Virgo alive is a protagonist. Virgos are the bedrock of civilization, the primary reason that we all continue to live in a society, but they are also a hell of a lot of trouble. This is both good and bad, a true mixed bag! Virgos are generally beloved of the rest of the zodiac when their sign ruler Mercury is orbiting directly. When Mercury is rampaging retrograde, as it is at the moment, other signs uncharitably wonder why Virgo can’t get their own damn planet under control.
Virgo is the zodiac’s mutable earth sign. Consider that for a moment. It’s sort of terrifying, isn’t it? A Virgo is basically a Gemini trapped in a body of stone. Their thoughts flit rapidly, but their actions weigh heavily. When Virgos make sudden tectonic shifts, they destabilize the foundational structures of their surrounding networks. Try though they might, an unhappy Virgo has little hope of keeping their displeasure a secret. Virgo’s loved ones will feel the telltale signs of earthquake trembling beneath their feet, and even random acquaintances will wonder why Virgo is suddenly obliterating historic landmarks in their vicinity.
Virgos are intensely intelligent and immensely judgmental. They can’t help it! Virgos’ minds are vast labyrinths of facts, rules, and amendments, re-routes, and workarounds for whatever guidelines they have decided to disobey. It is exceedingly foolish to initiate an argument with a Virgo — they are supremely talented lawyers. If you manage to pull off a win in the moment, they will remember and eventually return to defeat you. The only way to sway a Virgo to your cause is to carefully, competently convince them that your point of view is actually more reasonable than any conceivable possibility based on information they hadn’t considered. If you can manage that, Virgo actually won’t hold a grudge! In fact, they might even be grateful to you for the gift of fresh data.
Virgo’s eminent, archetypal correctness is the reason why it feels so weird when a Virgo is wrong. Like, Virgo, what are you doing being wrong? You absolutely know better than this!!! It’s unsettling, like watching a friend — most likely a Virgo — unconvincingly play dumb in an attempt to garner the approval of a supremely unworthy crush. But Virgos only know the feeling of rightness, so when they want to be wrong, they must laboriously build a shell of delusion and defend it relentlessly against any threat of attack. No arrow of dissuasion can penetrate their shield of willful self-deception until they voluntarily lower it to confront the truth. Only then do they independently leap to the correct conclusion, and only so they can cheat their friends of the chance to talk some sense into them. Go ahead and let go of that fantasy, everyone else! Virgo will always move in their own time, of their own accord.
Fortunately for all of us during this coming Virgo Season, Mercury is on a tight schedule, and its latest reign of terror will end during the first week. At that point, Virgos everywhere can carry on with being witty, charming, and annoyingly correct about everything. Virgos are rarely content with the status quo, since there’s always room for improvement. By the end of the season, Virgo will make truly enormous changes in all facets of life.

- The Sun is in your sign. The Sun opposes Saturn and Neptune, squares off against Jupiter, and creates trines with Uranus and Pluto.
- Venus begins the season in your sign, where it squares off against Mars, creates a trine with Uranus, and opposes Neptune. Then, Venus leaves your sign and moves to Libra.
- Your sign ruler Mercury begins the season retrograde in Leo. Orbiting retrograde, Mercury creates a trine with Chiron and forms a sextile with Mars. Then, Mercury turns direct. Orbiting directly, Mercury creates a trine with Chiron and squares off against Uranus. Then, Mercury leaves Leo and moves to your sign.
- In your sign, Mercury forms a sextile with Mars, opposes Saturn, and squares off against Jupiter.
- The New Moon in your sign passes through conjunction with the Sun, opposes Saturn and Neptune, squares off against Jupiter and Mars, and creates trines with Uranus and Pluto.
The first week of your season looks rough. Venus sparks off a toxic romantic spat, invites a sudden destabilizing surprise into your life, and cuts off access to your sense of intuition. While all of that’s happening, your sign ruler Mercury is retrograde, screwing up communication and causing irritating technological mishaps. But maybe the strife will serve to further your personal plot! At the same time it’s causing you frustration, Mercury makes pleasant contact with the representatives of healing and motivation.
Everything improves noticeably when Mercury turns direct and Venus moves over to Libra. The New Moon sweeps in to herald a fresh start, and wow, it’s not fooling around! The Sun, representative of the self, forms alliances with the rulers of revolution and reinvention. You’re uncharacteristically uninterested in routine at this point, and bizarrely disinterested in ease, but you’re deeply, seriously compelled to seize change. By season’s end, your current era will feel like a whole ’nother long-ago lifetime.
- Lilith and the South Node are in your sign.
- The South Node passes through conjunction with Lilith.
- Your sign ruler Venus begins the season in Virgo, where it squares off against Mars, creates a trine with Uranus, and opposes Neptune. Then, Venus leaves Virgo and moves to your sign.
- In your sign, Venus creates trines with Pluto and Jupiter, passes through conjunction with Lilith and the South Node, and opposes the North Node and Chiron.
In September, your desires are heavy and dark. You crave renewal so strongly you’re willing to demolish any perceived barrier that feels confining. Your sense of lust is centered way, way inside the deepest shadow of your dark side, and you are ruminating obsessively on past sensations. You don’t want to think about the future, and you definitely don’t want to heal. You just want to cocoon deep inside the darkest corners of your own heart, only emerging when you’re in the mood to indulge an objectively bad idea.
- Your sign ruler Pluto begins the season retrograde in Aquarius. On September 1, Pluto slides back from Aquarius to Capricorn.
Your sign ruler, dwarf planet Pluto, lives way out there in the solar system. Pluto’s orbit is oval-shaped and tilted, and it takes a long time to make one complete journey around the Sun: 248 Earth years, total. This means that Pluto spends a relatively long time in each sign, and presently the dwarf planet is in the midst of a rare transition. After 14 years in Capricorn, Pluto has moved to Aquarius, but periods of retrograde perspective orbit have kept it hovering near the border between signs. On September 1, Pluto moves retrograde back to Capricorn for the last time in all of our lifetimes.
This shift will feel a bit nostalgic, I imagine. It will be heavier and more serious than the lighter attitude the doomy dwarf planet of death and regeneration has attained in Aquarius. For nearly three months, it’s time to tie up loose ends and bid farewell to your last fifteen years. At the end of Scorpio season, Pluto makes its final farewell to Cap and embarks upon your next 19-year era of revolution in Aquarius.
- Your sign ruler Jupiter is in Gemini.
- The First Quarter Moon in your sign, squares off against Mercury, Saturn, the Sun, and Neptune; forms a sextile with Venus; and opposes Jupiter.
Dang, the First Quarter Moon in your sign is mean! It hates pretty much everything except Venus, which is behaving like an erratic (but iconic!) diva this season. Expect to feel uncharitably toward everyone and everything in the second week of September. Specifically, you’ll despise anything requiring communication, responsibility, self-awareness, and intuition. Honestly, you’ll probably even be mad at your own sign’s signature good luck, mired deep in the type of mood where you feel so petulant and surly that you weirdly crave a reason to feel even worse. This is all scheduled to go down during the work week — do your best to limit self-destruction to your personal life and avoid lasting professional consequences.
- Your sign ruler Saturn is retrograde in Pisces.
- Pluto begins the season retrograde in Aquarius. On September 1, Pluto slides back from Aquarius to your sign.
Hi, Pluto! The way-out ruler of Scorpio is your long-time pal. For fourteen years, the little dwarf planet of destruction and reconstruction was your faithful companion. Pluto finally moved on to Aquarius, but retrograde perspective orbit dragged it back for a previous visit. Now, another period of retrograde pulls Pluto back to your space for one last time. Until the end of Scorpio Season, you’ll resume your now-customary fatalistic resignation to long cycles of doom and renewal. Savor the feeling while you can! The next time Pluto departs your sign, it will finally stay gone for good. (Unless you discover the secret of immortality, that is, in which case you’ll greet Pluto again in about 250 years. I wouldn’t put it past Capricorns.)
- Pluto begins the season retrograde in your sign. On September 1, Pluto slides back from your sign to Capricorn.
- Your sign ruler Uranus is in Taurus. On September 1, Uranus turns retrograde.
Bye, Pluto! Starting in September, the dwarf planet that rules long cycles of permanent change gives you a break for three months. Rest up! You may feel a bit lighter while Pluto is away, less grimly focused on the universe’s eternal pattern of slow decay and persistent fresh growth. When it returns at the end of Scorpio season, Pluto will remain in your sign for the next 19 years.
On the same day, your sign ruler Uranus turns retrograde. Outer planet retrogrades don’t feel as intense to Earth dwellers as the moonwalk of a close-to-the-Sun planet like Mercury. They last longer, but usually result in a muting of influence rather than outright disaster. When Uranus turns retrograde, you may spend some months feeling slightly less inquisitive and spontaneous… or then again, you might feel more turbulent than ever. You often respond to seemingly straightforward stimuli in unpredictable ways.
- Saturn and your ruler Neptune are both retrograde in your sign.
- The Full Moon in your sign creates a trine with Mars, opposes Mercury and the Sun, passes through conjunction with Saturn and Neptune, squares off against Jupiter, and forms sextiles with Uranus and Pluto.
- The Earth’s shadow shades the Full Moon in your sign in a partial lunar eclipse.
It’s Eclipse time! Just a little one, though. The Earth’s shadow takes a little nibble from the big cookie of the Full Moon in your sign, blocking some of the emotional overflow associated with this phase of the lunar cycle. Good thing! The Moon is currently very close to the Earth while it’s in your sign, and the sentiments that overwhelm you at that time will most likely be enormous. Thanks to the partial lunar eclipse, you’re more likely to suffer a mild, tension-dissipating crying session rather than a disastrous full-system meltdown.
- Chiron and the North Node are retrograde in your sign. (The North Node is always generally retrograde.)
- The North Node opposes Lilith.
- Your sign ruler Mars begins the season in Gemini, where it forms a sextile with Chiron and squares off against Neptune. Then, Mars leaves Gemini and moves to Cancer.
- In Cancer, Mars squares off against the North Node and Lilith.
You don’t have any patience for shady shenanigans this season. You have a destiny to pursue and a future to greet! Not that your mission will be easy. Your sign ruler Mars increases difficulty by draining you of motivation in mid-September. This is a test, most likely. Mars knows you’re stubborn enough to keep pushing forward even when your proverbial tank is empty, and y’all take a strange satisfaction in feats of outlandish endurance.
- Uranus is in your sign. On September 1, Uranus turns retrograde.
- Your sign ruler Venus begins the season in Virgo, where it squares off against Mars, creates a trine with Uranus, and opposes Neptune. Then, Venus leaves Virgo and moves to Libra.
- In Libra, Venus creates trines with Pluto and Jupiter, passes through conjunction with Lilith, and opposes the North Node and Chiron.
Venus is wilding out all season long. You run a high risk of behaving like a total terror in pursuit of sudden, overwhelming whims. First, while it’s in Virgo, Venus clashes with the concept of motivation, embraces rebellion, and rejects gut instinct. When Venus hops over to Libra, which is also ruled by the planet of desire, the situation becomes especially dark and intense. You’ll spend some time wallowing around in your own shadow, ignoring frantic calls from healing and destiny. Mid-September is an excellent time to blow up your whole life. The explosion might be destructive, but hey! You needed the extra space, anyway! You can always worry about tidying up the wreckage later.
- Mars begins the season in your sign, where it forms a sextile with Chiron and squares off against Neptune. Then, Mars leaves your sign and moves to Cancer.
Then, Mercury leaves Leo and moves to Virgo.
- In Virgo, Mercury forms a sextile with Mars, opposes Saturn, and squares off against Jupiter.
The chaos continues! What else is new? Your sign ruler Mercury is retrograde, wreaking havoc all around the zodiac, but both Mercury and Mars help you achieve a little healing in the midst of the welter. Then, Mercury turns direct and your path smooths out a bit. In September, you’re not feeling very interested in maintaining routine or pursuing ambition. The presence of lucky Jupiter should protect you from the worst consequences of your irresponsibility, but you’ll probably make other people angry by speaking up to share your immediate thoughts when it might actually be wiser to remain quiet. Mind your words.
- Mars leaves Gemini and moves to your sign.
- In your sign, Mars squares off against the North Node and Lilith.
- Your sign ruler the Moon travels through the entire zodiac, moving through Aries, Taurus, and Gemini twice at the beginning and end of the season.
- The Last Quarter Moon in Gemini squares off against the Sun.
- The New Moon in Virgo passes through conjunction with the Sun.
- The First Quarter Moon in Sagittarius squares off against the Sun.
- The Full Moon in Pisces opposes the Sun. The Earth’s shadow shades the Full Moon in a partial solar eclipse.
The Last and First Quarter Moons of the season take place in Gemini and Sagittarius, both mischievous. Keep your eyes open for unexpected nonsense during those times. The New Moon in Virgo, which occurs shortly after Mercury turns direct, presages really big beginnings throughout the zodiac. This is good news, for sure, but in practice could turn out to be very tumultuous. The Full Moon in Pisces is shaded in a partial solar eclipse, which may serve to help balance emotions while the Moon is closest to the Earth. Mind your feelings carefully this season, and try not to take instances of miscommunication too personally!
- Mercury begins the season retrograde in your sign. Orbiting retrograde, Mercury creates a trine with Chiron and forms a sextile with Mars. Then, Mercury turns direct. Orbiting directly, Mercury creates a trine with Chiron and squares off against Uranus. Then, Mercury leaves your sign and moves to Virgo.
- Your sign ruler the Sun is in Virgo. The Sun opposes Saturn and Neptune, squares off against Jupiter, and creates trines with Uranus and Pluto.
You continue to host the remainder of Mercury retrograde. Gross. However, this gives you two major chances to make some healing happen when Mercury makes pals with Chiron on its course backward… and then again moving forward! In September, you get to hand troublemaking Mercury over to Virgo.
While your sign ruler the Sun is in Virgo, you’re slated for major plot development. You may struggle to make good choices this season and might even spurn a great opportunity, but whatever. You’ll be busy dealing with major, tectonic life changes anyway. By the end of the season, you’ll have totally different priorities than you did at the outset.
