Scorpio Season Is Time to Get a Little Selfish. What to Expect Based on Your Sign

Let’s focus on our own interests for a little while. Read our queer Scorpio Season horoscope.

Welcome to Scorpio Season. To celebrate, let’s begin this horoscope by demystifying a sign that has a reputation for being “mysterious.”

Scorpios aren’t really “secretive,” per se. We just don’t offer up information unless we genuinely want to divulge it. This tendency can be baffling to other signs, who may feel rattled when a taciturn Scorpio suddenly offers up an intimate confession. This can causes a sense of whiplash, which can make some people feel deceived. In truth, the reserved Scorpio was never shy, and Scorp was never disingenuous. Each Scorpio simply chooses moments when we feel like revealing evidence of our selfhood. This is very basic, commonplace Scorpio behavior, but other people often project profundity upon it. That’s how we get the “mysterious” label.

Scorpios are sensitive about perception. It’s not that we care overmuch about other people’s opinions of them, but we are perturbed by perception in a very literal sense. Sometimes, Scorpios simply do not wish to be perceived! The act of beholding a Scorpio requires consent. Otherwise, the elusive Scorpio will deflect, disappear, and decree the observer who paid uninvited notice to be incredibly rude. When a Scorpio wants to be witnessed, you’ll know it. Then, it’s impossible to get us out of your face.

As you’ve probably surmised from my use of “we” and “us,” I myself am a Scorpio Sun sign, so writing this season’s introduction is always an uncomfortable exercise in feeling observed… even though I’m the one doing the observing. Like ugh, shut up, self. You don’t know me! But my defiance is futile. I do actually know myself pretty well. I would prefer to issue devastating reads on my Scorpio family, friends, and foes without being forced to count myself among the group. But that wouldn’t be fair, so below are a few notes about me, one individual Scorpio.

Occasionally, people are surprised to learn that I am a Scorpio. They hear my birthdate and expect a gothier external presentation than I currently care to provide. Instead, I prefer to wear very bright colors, because I like the way they look and because defying expectations is fun. Also, dressing in eye-searing saturation is an armor of sorts, which relieves me from the burden of worrying that people might be looking at me when I go out in public. Of course they’re looking at me — I’m wearing an outfit that can be seen from the International Space Station!

My style is a genuine expression of my personality, but it’s also my stage wardrobe for my role as a person in the world. With great respect to almost everyone I’ve ever met in my entire life: You’re lovely and I like you, we can get along fabulously, but I just don’t know you well enough to let you see me in a plain black dress. That’s for my partner, my pets, and the neighbors who spot me lurking around my area like a cryptid on nighttime walks.

Because I dress as though I have been viciously attacked by a Crayola box with a fondness for floral prints, people are also sometimes surprised to discover that I, a Scorpio, love doom metal. That shock always astonishes me in turn: I’m not sure how they imagine I’d possibly be smiling if I weren’t imbibing a constant stream of fuzzy downtuned monster riffs through my headphones. Lyrics about hopeless finality make me feel conversely euphoric about the beauty of the ephemeral.

Last spring, a Libra I had recently met asked for my sign.

“Scorpio,” I said.

“Ew!” she exclaimed.

I laughed out loud. She walked the statement back a bit (Libras, am I right?), but she needn’t have. If I start thinking about that incident too hard in hindsight, I become offended on behalf of my fellow Scorpios, but in the moment I found her utterance of disgust enormously endearing. Please, spare us all the agony of inauthenticity.

Scorpios? EW! Enough forbidden knowledge about us; it’s time to talk about the rest of you goobers! Scroll down below to find out your fate this Scorpio Season. What the stars are up to:
  • The Sun is in your sign. The Sun creates trines with Saturn and Neptune and opposes Uranus.
  • Mercury begins the season in your sign, where it opposes Uranus, creates trines with Neptune and Mars, and forms a sextile with Pluto. Then, Mercury leaves your sign and moves to Sagittarius.
  • The New Moon in your sign passes through conjunction with the Sun; creates trines with Saturn, Neptune, and Mars; opposes Uranus; and forms a sextile with Pluto.
  • Your sign ruler Pluto begins the season in Capricorn. Near the end of the season, Pluto leaves Capricorn and moves to Aquarius.
What it means:

This season we’re working hard, but we’re not getting weird — not at the start, anyway. In conversation, self-examination, and emotion, Scorp is organized, motivated, and attuned to our intuition as we work to prepare for a major change. We know what we need to do, and now’s the time to buckle down and do it.

Near the end of the season, Scorpio sign ruler Pluto leaves Capricorn for the last time. Not for the last time in history, of course, but for the last time in our lifetimes — it’s pretty unlikely that any of us will still be hanging around waiting to see our fav dwarf planet of doom return to Cap 248 years from now.

From here until 2043, Pluto will dwell in Aquarius, and we’ll become weirder than we’d ever yet dreamed possible! I, for one, am excited to see how eccentric we can become. Nineteen years will give us a pretty decent start on picking up some serious idiosyncrasies, I’d say, and I’m excited to get started!

Sagittarius

What the stars are up to:
  • Venus begins the season in your sign, where it squares off against Saturn and Neptune, forms a sextile with Lilith, opposes Jupiter, and creates a trine with Chiron. Then, Venus leaves your sign and moves to Capricorn.
  • In early November, Mercury leaves Scorpio and moves to your sign. Mercury creates trines with the North Node and Chiron, squares off against Saturn, forms a sextile with Lilith, and opposes Jupiter.
  • Your sign ruler Jupiter is retrograde in Gemini. Jupiter forms a sextile with Chiron.
What it means:

Venus makes you crave healing, but denies you access to the helpful tools you’d need to make it happen. Discipline and idealism are not on your current list of desires. A passing friendship between Venus and shadow ruler Lilith can possibly help you set boundaries, but you need to be careful that you don’t end up simply enacting reckless damage. (Venus is far removed from the safety of your lucky sign ruler, Jupiter.)

You’re definitely talking about healing and envisioning your future once Mercury joins your sign in November. You’re still hampered by a distaste for obligation, but whatever. When has a lack of personal responsibility ever managed to stop you from achieving your goals?

Capricorn

What the stars are up to:
  • Pluto begins the season in your sign.
  • Mercury forms a sextile with Pluto.
  • Mars opposes Pluto.
  • Near the end of the season, Pluto leaves your sign and moves to Aquarius.
  • In mid-November, Venus leaves Sagittarius and moves to your sign. Venus squares off against the North Node.
  • Your sign ruler Saturn begins the season retrograde in Pisces. In mid-November, Saturn turns direct!
What it means:

It’s finally time to say goodbye to your dwarf planet pal Pluto. I’ve been (proverbially) yelling about this day for years of writing this column, but it’s hard to believe the time is finally here. After 14 years, your time with Pluto at last draws to its end.

Break-ups aren’t easy, but you’re ready for this one. You’ve been practicing spending periods of time without Pluto when it’s tiptoed across the line to Aquarius previously, and now, you’re ready to move forward alone. Four days before Pluto moves on, your sign ruler Sarurn ends its retrograde vacation and buckles down to business. For a single day, you’ll mourn intensely while Venus squares off with the Nodes of the Moon’s orbit, causing you to reminisce on the past and resist the future. But then, that’ll pass. You’ll dive into distracting yourself with work and you’ll be fine, as ever.

Aquarius

What the stars are up to:
  • The First Quarter Moon in your sign opposes Mars, forms sextiles with Mercury and Venus, squares off against the Sun and Uranus, and creates a trine with Jupiter.
  • Your sign ruler Uranus is retrograde in Taurus.
  • Near the end of the season, Pluto leaves Capricorn and moves to your sign.
What it means:

Welcome back, Pluto! Hand in hand with the dwarf planet of destruction and reinvention, you prepare to skip fatalistically forward into the next 19 years of your life! Far from the relatively meager duration of a pop album aesthetic, your partnership with Pluto will be a full-on, capital E Era. Please check back 20 years from now and let me know how it goes!

Before that, you build up to the big event with the help of the First Quarter Moon in your sign. Unconventional as ever, you spurn emotional assistance from your own oddball sign ruler, Uranus, and you’re disinterested in initiating action while distant from the energy of Mars. But the Moon’s happy relationship with Jupiter will provide a big boost of confidence, and pleasant connections with Mercury and Venus will aid you in determining and discussing your desires.

Pisces

What the stars are up to:
  • Your sign ruler Neptune is retrograde in your sign.
  • Saturn begins the season retrograde in your sign. Mercury squares off against Saturn. In mid-November, Saturn turns direct!
  • The Sun creates trines with Saturn and Neptune.
  • Mercury creates a trine with Neptune.
  • Venus squares off against Saturn and Neptune.
What it means:

You’re slated for a truly fantastic month for self-actualization! Less so for desire, but you can’t always get what you want on your journey to becoming the person that you need.

You’re really locked in on routine in service of accomplishing your ideals. To use an annoying hustle culture gym metaphor (gross, sorry), you’re waking up and “putting in the work” every day, even and maybe especially when you don’t feel like it. On Halloween night, you have a discussion that unlocks a profound epiphany about your dreams. Then, in mid-November, you begin to take serious satisfaction in the tasks you’ve been trudging through in pursuit of your goals.

Aries

What the stars are up to:
  • Chiron and the North Node are retrograde in your sign. (The North Node is always generally retrograde; that’s normal.)
  • Jupiter forms a sextile with Chiron.
  • Venus creates a trine with Chiron.
  • Mercury creates trines with the North Node and Chiron.
  • Venus squares off against the North Node.
  • Your sign ruler Mars begins the season in Cancer, where it opposes Pluto. Then, Mars leaves Cancer and moves to Leo.
  • In Leo, Mars creates a trine with the North Node.
What it means:

Everybody loves healing this season! That is, if we’re counting “everybody” as Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury — not literally every planet, but a pretty powerful group. You’ve got luck, desire, and wit helping you mend problems and fortify defenses.

Fickle Venus, ruler of attraction, is feeling grumpy about the future, but Mercury and Mars boost your powers of communication and motivation for progress. The North Node of destiny remains in your sign until next Aquarius Season, and you continue to speedrun important life development for the rest of this year.

Taurus

What the stars are up to:
  • Uranus is retrograde in your sign.
  • Mercury and the Sun oppose Uranus.
  • Your sign ruler Venus begins the season in Sagittarius, where it squares off against Saturn and Neptune, forms a sextile with Lilith, opposes Jupiter, and creates a trine with Chiron. Then, Venus leaves Sagittarius and moves to Capricorn.
  • In Capricorn, Venus squares off against the North Node.
  • The Full Moon in your sign squares off against Mars, creates trines with Venus and Pluto, forms sextiles with Saturn and Neptune, opposes the Sun, and passes through conjunction with Uranus.
What it means:

Mercury and the Sun shun your planetary friend Uranus this season. Nobody cares to talk about or even think about disruption until the last days of the season. It’s up to you to safely shelter the celestial source of strangeness until everyone’s ready to get freaky again.

The Full Moon in your sign loves the bizarre and unexpected, however. It cuddles up to Uranus and makes friends with Pluto, the representative of change. You don’t have a surfeit of emotional energy available, but you want to work toward fresh and unexpected outcomes. Even if you feel tired, you’ll daydream about realizing your goals.

Gemini

Shuhua Xiong
What the stars are up to:
  • Jupiter is retrograde in your sign. Jupiter forms a sextile with Chiron.
  • Your sign ruler Mercury begins the season in Scorpio, where it opposes Uranus, creates trines with Neptune and Mars, and forms a sextile with Pluto. Then, Mercury leaves Scorpio and moves to Sagittarius.
  • In Sagittarius, Mercury creates trines with the North Node and Chiron, squares off against Saturn, forms a sextile with Lilith, and opposes Jupiter.
What it means:

Sometimes healing takes work. In other instances, recovery requires rest. You’ll do a bit of each this season, first chasing change and then relaxing to contemplate your future. Near the end of the season, you face an uncomfortable day when your ruler Mercury opposes Jupiter in your sign. This will probably cause conflicting feelings, but fortunately you’re no stranger to managing incongruous interests. By the end of the season, Mercury cooperates with Chiron and healing remains your utmost priority.

Cancer

Shuhua Xiong
What the stars are up to:
  • Mars begins the season in your sign, where it opposes Pluto. Mercury creates a trine with Mars. Then, Mars leaves your sign and moves to Leo.
  • Your sign ruler the Moon travels through the entire zodiac, moving through your sign and Leo twice at the beginning and end of the season.
  • The Last Quarter Moon in Leo squares off against the Sun.
  • The New Moon in Scorpio passes through conjunction with the Sun.
  • The First Quarter Moon in Aquarius squares off against the Sun.
  • The Full Moon in Taurus opposes the Sun.
What it means:

Mars doesn’t want change, it just wants to chat. But change comes for us all nonetheless and Mars soon leaves your sign to go motivate Leo instead. The New Moon in Scorpio delivers Halloween revelations, putting you in touch with your deepest instincts. The Full Moon in Taurus, on the other hand, gets funky, causing an uncharacteristic longing for unexpected upheaval. You get two sessions with your satellite sign ruler the Moon this season, both of which are balm for your soul.

Leo

Shuhua Xiong
What the stars are up to:
  • The Last Quarter Moon in your sign squares off against the Sun, Mercury, and Uranus; creates a trine with Venus; and forms a sextile with Jupiter.
  • Mars leaves Cancer and moves to your sign. Then, Mars creates a trine with the North Node.
  • Your sign ruler the Sun is in Scorpio. The Sun creates trines with Saturn and Neptune and opposes Uranus.
  • The New Moon in Scorpio passes through conjunction with the Sun.
  • The Full Moon in Taurus opposes the Sun.
What it means:

You’re in for a very strong season! The Last Quarter Moon helps you close out some serious emotional business. It’ll be tough to articulate your feelings, but you’ll gain a clearer understanding of your desires.

Throughout the season, you’re disciplined in your habits and attenuated to your instincts. You aren’t enthusiastic about new experiments right now, but you don’t need to be. You are focused on forging a path into the future, which you’ll pursue energetically when Mars moves to your sign.

Virgo

Shuhua Xiong
What the stars are up to:
  • Your sign ruler Mercury begins the season in Scorpio, where it opposes Uranus, creates trines with Neptune and Mars, and forms a sextile with Pluto. Then, Mercury leaves Scorpio and moves to Sagittarius.
  • In Sagittarius, Mercury creates trines with the North Node and Chiron, squares off against Saturn, forms a sextile with Lilith, and opposes Jupiter.
What it means:

For the first half of the season, you’re deeply motivated to follow your instincts. You’re ready for serious life change, but you don’t want to resort to experimental methods to chase it. Not to worry! Tried-and-true roads can still take you to unfamiliar places.

When Mercury moves to Sagittarius, you’re ready to take a break. You’re in need of rest to recuperate and face the future, and strict routines won’t serve you well. This is a time to be a little selfish and focus on your immediate interests.

Libra

Shuhua Xiong
What the stars are up to:
  • Lilith and the South Node are in your sign.
  • Mercury forms a sextile with Lilith.
  • Mercury forms a sextile with the South Node.
  • Mars forms a sextile with the South Node.
  • Your sign ruler Venus begins the season in Sagittarius, where it squares off against Saturn and Neptune, forms a sextile with Lilith, opposes Jupiter, and creates a trine with Chiron. Then, Venus leaves Sagittarius and moves to Capricorn.
  • In Capricorn, Venus squares off against the South Node.
What it means:

Mercury gets in some good gossip sessions with Lilith and the South Node this season. Not that you struggle to yap, but you’ll be especially adept at discussing your dark impulses and connecting them to events from your personal history. When Mars aligns in trine with the North Node and corresponding sextile with the South Node, you’ll probably make a breakthrough in therapy.

Venus doesn’t want to work right now, and it certainly doesn’t want to help you become a better person, though it is happy to indulge selfish feelings. You really do want to heal some old, lingering injuries, but you’re not quite ready to let them go just yet.
